Pastor’s Corner — March 19th, 2023

Thank you, Steve Schafer and the Knights of Columbus

We have many people working in tandem to make everything possible for our church renovation project. Along with our outstanding maintenance under the leadership of Noah Allen, we have our architect and construction manager Ben Luther working with project director Ryan Nardozzi to make it all happen. Other staff, especially Nancy Coffey and Jeff Jackowski, and many parish volunteers have made this project run smoothly in every aspect. Last week, I was moved once more by the usual generosity of the parish Knights of Columbus under the leadership of Steve Schafer who helped disassemble pews, move them, set up folding chairs and take them down. Their hours of volunteer service made last weekend’s transition for the new pews possible. It’s wonderful that I’ve come to simply expect such self-less service from the Knights of Columbus. But I must say again that I’m thankful not just because they saved the parish a lot of money, but also because their dedicated service to the parish is clear demonstration of their commitment to the parish as a family (our core value of Unconditional Belonging) but also their commitment to Christian service (our core value of I am Third). Indeed, I am very thankful for all people who serve in the parish in any capacity. This latest example is just another reminder for me of how much I love being here at St. Pat’s.

The Advantages of Planning Your Funeral w/Fr. Mathias and Todd Borek (April 18th at 6:30)

Over the years parishioners have asked questions about how to plan their funerals. In addition, I’ve become concerned that some family members of the deceased aren’t really aware of the purpose of the funeral Mass and how to go about planning a reverent and meaningful one for their family. Therefore, next month we will be offering a special session on how to pre-plan one’s funeral, one that helps our families grieve and turn to Jesus when we pass. In addition to talking about options available for funeral rites (funeral vigils, readings, music, etc) I’m also asking Todd Borek (From Borek Jennings Funeral Home) to share about the unique role that funeral arrangements play in helping our loved ones grieve.

When our family members experience beautiful funeral liturgies, and are well cared for in the funeral rites of the Church, we are helping to dispose them to experiencing the love and peace of Christ which surpasses all understanding. This event is open to the whole parish and one does not need to be close to death in order to come. If anything, I believe you’ll be inspired about the goodness of God around our death. If you’re interested, please mark your calendars for April 18th at 6:30pm. Because we need to know how many folders to prepare, we’re asking people to register online here.

Disciple Maker Index and Diocesan Services Appeal

Thanks again to all of you who have taken the time to complete the Disciple Maker Index Survey and for those who have given to the Diocesan Services Appeal. If you haven’t done so, I offer this little reminder. As one who can forget to do little tasks, I know these little reminders can help. Thanks again!

Your servant in the Lord,
Fr. Mathias
