lectors
“AND WE ALSO THANK GOD CONTINUALLY BECAUSE, WHEN YOU RECEIVED THE WORD OF GOD, WHICH YOU HEARD FROM US, YOU ACCEPTED IT NOT AS A HUMAN WORD, BUT AS IT ACTUALLY IS, THE WORD OF GOD, WHICH IS INDEED AT WORK IN YOU WHO BELIEVE.”
1 THESSALONIANS 2:13
The ministry of Lector is open to men and women who are fully initiated into the Catholic Church, have discerned a particular call to proclaim the Word of God and exhibit a love for Sacred Scripture. Investing time in training, preparation and prayer, lectors at St Patrick proclaim the Scriptures clearly and articulately with confidence and authenticity.
GENERAL INSTRUCTION OF THE ROMAN MISSAL 101
“In the absence of an instituted lector, other lay people may be deputed to proclaim the readings from Sacred Scripture, people who are truly suited to carrying out this function and carefully prepared, so that by their hearing the readings from the sacred texts the faithful may conceive in their hearts a sweet and living affection for Sacred Scripture.”
