Pastor’s Corner — March 26th, 2023

Thank You Deacon Dave Carignan

While he is still planning on staying a Deacon at St Pat’s, Deacon Dave is going to be retiring from parish staff and no longer be the Director of Marriage and Family Life. I am truly thankful for Deacon as he’s been a true servant on staff and has taken our marriage ministry to the next level. Here is the note from him:

“I would like to take this opportunity to inform everyone of a few things that will impact my ability to serve at St. Patrick. Over the past several years I have had a few medical conditions being closely monitored. I am scheduled to have a medical procedure in a few months and that will require a somewhat lengthy recovery period. This will result in my being unable to serve the parish as a member of the parish staff as well as serving at the altar.

That being the case, effective April 6th, I will no longer be directing the ministry of Marriage and Family Life. It has been a real joy and privilege being able to provide the parish family with various opportunities for celebrating marriage and family. Three years ago, when I came to St. Patrick, Father Mathias asked that I consider undertaking the building up of the pre-marriage preparation program as well as developing a way to enrich marriage and support family life. I was happy to do just that. One of the best decisions, with Fr. Mathias’ agreement and support, was to hire a pre-marriage preparation coordinator. Mackenzie Compton has been a joy to work with and a definite asset to the parish in that capacity.

While I am not leaving the parish at this time, I am stepping away from official staff duties. My wife Liz and I plan to take a short vacation and so the time is right to step down. Mackenzie will continue serving the parish as marriage prep coordinator and so I know everything will be seamless in that regard. I encourage anyone who might feel called to help her to please let her know. Family helps family.

May God bless you, and our whole parish family.

Always in Christ,
Deacon Dave

Save the Date: Appreciation Reception for Liturgical Ministers (April 25th at 7pm-8pm)

On April 25th at 7pm in McCann, we are having a special reception to recognize and thank all of our liturgical volunteers: lectors, ushers, extraordinary ministers, sacristans, sound techs, and altar servers. This light reception is an opportunity for us to enjoy a time together and honor all the parish volunteers who serve the parish in the context of the Mass. Along with refreshments and a very light program, we just might be announcing a key update or two before we announce them to the parish.

“Sound of Music Jr” School Play THIS Weekend (March 24-March 26)

This weekend we are hosting St Pat’s School Drama as they present “Sound of Music Junior.” Show times are Friday 7pm, Saturday 1pm, Saturday 7pm and Sunday 1pm. Special Thanks ahead of time to Kathleen Moore, Ron Garrison, and all the students involved in the play (acting or taking part in the crew). These shows are so well done each year and I’m looking forward to going to it. Please go here for tickets.

Last Fish Fry Next Weekend (March 31st)

Don’t forget about our last Fish Fry next weekend from 3:30-7:30pm at the PLC. There is dine-in and drive-through available. Please consider coming and supporting the St Pat’s School Dad’s Club while spending some time dining in delicious fish dinners with other school families and parish families.

Your servant in the Lord,
Fr. Mathias
