Parish Pentecost Prayer Service: June 4th at 7:30pm

Please save the date for a special parish Pentecost event, during which I will be preaching about the gift of the Holy Spirit and we’ll be praying for a greater outpouring of the Holy Spirit for those who want more of what Jesus promised. (This is NOT an Encounter Ministries event) This event is particularly geared toward those who may not have much or any familiarity with the grace of baptism in the Spirit and are eager for more of God’s love in their life. Along with music, we’ll even have testimonies of parishioners who will share their own experience of God’s love in the Holy Spirit. Plan on bringing your friends whom you want to know the love of God.

Welcome Seminarians to St. Pat’s!

This summer Fr. Miguel and I are hosting three seminarians, two of which (Thomas Watza and Joseph Kelly) will be working maintenance. The third is Riley O’Shea who will be on an official  seminarian internship and will be joining Fr. Miguel and I in various pastoral opportunities and experiences. Here is a little note from him:

Hello, my name is Riley O’Shea and I am excited to be here at St. Patrick’s Parish for my summer internship! I am entering into my fifth year at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit as a seminarian with the Diocese of Lansing and will be here through August 7th assisting Fr. Mathias and Fr. Miguel as I continue my formation for the priesthood.

I am from Grand Ledge and my home parish is St. Michael’s. During a retreat in my time at MSU, God broke into my life in a powerful way which led me to begin discerning the priesthood. After graduation in 2015, I lived in Flint and worked as a Materials Engineer. Only after entrusting my life to Our Blessed Mother through making a Marian Consecration did I have the grace to truly pray “Your will be done” and enter the seminary in 2018. I look forward to meeting many of you this summer and to the blessings this time will bring!

In Our Risen Lord,
Riley

Brighton City Council Votes Down Marijuana Dispensaries

The long-awaited vote on the Brighton marijuana issue finally came to pass, and we’re pleased to report we prevailed in the vote by a margin of 6-1! I am very proud of a reported strong turn-out of St. Pat’s Parishioners at this event. Of special note were the powerful and well-spoken witness of the St. Pat’s Youth Group. While the big marijuana companies will likely appeal this local decision to get this on the ballot for Brighton citizens, our strong success here shows how powerful it is when Christians speak up in local politics.

Your servant in the Lord,
Fr. Mathias
