No Mass or Confessions This Week Tues-Thurs (February 15-17)

This week all the priests of the diocese will be on an important retreat with Bishop Boyea. Therefore, we will not have Mass Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and confessions on Wednesday and Thursday are canceled. Please pray for us and for an increase of vocations.

Snowman Challenge Winner!

Last week in my email to the parish I issued a “Snowman Challenge” to the kids of the parish/school: the kid who sends in the best snowman gets an entire box of hot chocolate mix from me and Fr. Miguel. We had many submissions and the decision was tough, but the winner we chose is Emilia Malpeli, a second grader at St Pat School. Emilia loves to ski and her snowman is inspired by team USA in the Winter Olympics. I’ve never seen a snowman holding ski poles!

Peter Kreeft: The New C.S. Lewis

Boston College Philosopher Professor Peter Kreeft is one of my favorite authors. As a former atheist turned Christian and then Catholic convert, he has shown in his almost 95 books and his lecture writings the brilliance and splendor of truth of the Catholic faith. Ever since my conversion he has inspired me to be fully alive intellectually and spiritually. People are rightly calling him the Catholic C.S. Lewis because of the breadth of his learning, the precision in his insight and his uncanny ability to communicate truth. While his books range on all sorts of topics, what might interest some people here is his explication of the persuasive arguments for God and Christianity.

Back in November, Word on Fire author Brandon Vogt wrote an article Giver of Wisdom and Wonder: Five Lessons from Peter Kreeft which names his most significant contributions of his writing. In this article Vogt mentions and links to some of Kreeft’s books and articles on his arguments for God and Christianity.

If you have family members or friends who claim that they aren’t Christian because of intellectual reasons against God or Christianity, it would be most wise for you to read this article and explore the world of wisdom and wonder of the truth.

Your servant in the Lord,
Fr. Mathias
