Priest Convocation This Week: NO Mass This Week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday)

Each year the priests of the diocese go away with the bishop to enjoy some time of relaxation, rest, and priestly fraternity. It is also a time to handle some diocesan business and get some further professional development. This year we’re welcoming Bishop Gerald Vincke to lead our retreat time. Since the bishop asks all priests to cancel Masses so we can be there, Masses this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are canceled. (Wednesday confessions are also canceled, but Thursday’s confessions are on) Please pray for all of us, especially for Bishop Boyea in this time. His leadership is crucial in this time of transition as we seek to implement RRM. Fr. Miguel and I will pray for you all in a special way this week. Come, Holy Spirit!

Free Food and Our Parish Festival: THIS Sunday (2-6pm on School Grounds)

Did I mention the food was Free? Please plan on bringing your family and friends to our parish festival which includes bounce houses, obstacle courses, beer brewed by parishioner-owned Eternity Brewing, Tommy Schober and the Sound of Sorgenbrecher German band, and FREE authentic German food. I forgot to mention earlier that the food is free. We will also be drawing tickets at the end for our Annual Parish Raffle. (Don’t forget to turn in your tickets in the white barrels at the entrances in the Church by Sunday). I hope to see you there!

Respect Life Sunday: Waking Up to The Grave Evil of MI Proposal 3

On the Rickett Rd side of our Church property you’ll notice that we have 1,100 crosses in our property to symbolize the millions of children lost to abortion. My hope is that the crosses this year will remind us about greater threats to innocent children, even after Dobbs. My hope is this month we can help everyone to wake up to the extreme, deceptive and gravely evil Proposal 3 on the Michigan ballot. I know those are strong words, but the fact stands that what we’re facing is one of the most extreme constitutional amendments in the entire country. Since people don’t know what they don’t know, we need to get the word out.

Last week I published some excellent resources in my bulletin column. In addition to my comments this weekend, I want to point out this website of our Diocese on Proposal 3. One of them is an brilliant article written by a local lawyer and doctor, “Debunking 10 Falsehoods on Proposal 3” (The video of the talk is here) They debunk these falsehoods on the amendment in Proposal 3:

  1. The amendment restores women’s rights under Roe. FALSE.

  2. The amendment preserves the rights of the next generation. FALSE.

  3. The amendment protects a woman’s right to choose. FALSE

  4. The amendment protects “miscarriage care.” FALSE.

  5. The amendment allows medical treatment for an ectopic pregnancy. FALSE.

  6. The amendment protects health care professionals from going to prison for performing vital fertility, miscarriage and pregnancy services. FALSE.

  7. The amendment prevents prosecution of doctors for performing abortions where the mother’s life is at risk. FALSE.

  8. This amendment is needed to prevent “health care professionals” from going to prison for providing abortion care. MOSTLY FALSE.

  9. The amendment protects women. FALSE.

  10. The Amendment protects the fundamental right of every individual, (man and woman), over their own body, as summarized in “My body, my choice!” FALSE.

There are more resources available at the table in the back of the Church. Please pray for God’s mercy on our state and VOTE NO on Proposal 3.

Your servant in the Lord,
Fr. Mathias
