Deacon Josh Fons Begins His Assignment at St Pat’s

A couple of weeks ago, I published an introductory biographical note from Deacon Josh Fons, who is assigned to our parish for a period of one year. He’ll be here full time throughout the summer shadowing Fr. Miguel and I and be here 3x/month until he’s ordained a priest in June 2024. He’s quite outgoing and eager to get to know the parish. He’s also quite open to dinners at people’s houses. (Hint: don’t be shy from inviting him over: jfons@stpatchurch.org) Please give him a warm St Pat’s welcome when you see him!

Pentecost Vigil Outpouring Event: Saturday May 27 at 7pm

As I mentioned last weekend in my homily, you’re invited to a special parish Pentecost Vigil event called “Outpouring” in the Church in which we will be praying for a greater outpouring of the Holy Spirit for those who want more of what Jesus promised. We do this event a couple times a year now (Solemnity of Christ the King in November and Pentecost in May/June). It’s been powerful for those who have attended. The event is particularly geared toward those who may not have much or any familiarity with the grace of baptism in the Spirit and are eager for more of God’s love and power in their lives. Along with preaching and beautiful praise music, we’ll have a testimony or two of parishioners who have experienced God’s love powerfully in past events.

For the sake of clarity, this is not an Encounter Ministries event, but a parish event that is open to everyone, especially friends and family who wish to pray for more of the Holy Spirit. Plan on bringing your friends whom you want to know the love of God. I hope to see you there!

Last Week’s Homily

I take seriously the responsibility of preaching clearly. At the end of the 9:30am Mass I told the congregation that part of my homily for that mass was unclear. We recorded the 11:30am homily and posted it on YouTube. If you found the explanation of the two kinds of emotionalism unclear at any of the Masses, I’d suggest you listen to the clearer homily posted on YouTube.

Note from Noah Allen, our Facilities Manager, about the Cemetery Condition

“We appreciate the feedback we received regarding Calvary Cemetery and in understanding the significance of this location, want to extend a sincere apology to all those that were negatively impacted by the condition. We have been down a maintenance worker and there was a miscommunication on what needed to be completed and I take responsibility for the error. We have contracted a private company as well as utilizing our current maintenance staff and volunteers to quickly remedy the situation. Moving forward we will do our very best to make sure the cemetery is cared for appropriately. If you have any questions or would like to provide assistance to the maintenance staff by joining the St. Isidore Society feel free to contact me. I want to thank everyone who reached out and am more than happy to answer any further questions or concerns.
-Noah Allen, Facilities Manager”

Your servant in the Lord,
Fr. Mathias
